01 The brief
A serious barbell gym has the opposite problem to a wellness studio. Its audience is not looking to be soothed — they want to know the kit, the coaching, the standards, and whether the people there train like they do.
The risk is looking like a chain. Franchise gyms have colonised the aesthetic of intensity, so shouting louder is not a differentiator.
02 The approach
Weight, not noise
Anton at large sizes gives the page real mass without a single exclamation mark. It carries the intensity typographically so the copy can stay factual, which is what this audience trusts.
Dark ground, hard edges
Near-black at #0a0b09 with high-contrast type and square corners. The photography does the atmosphere; the interface stays out of the way. Space Mono handles the numbers, which matter a great deal here.
Programmes before persuasion
The structure goes straight to what you would actually do there — programmes, then why, then how to join. No lifestyle preamble before the substance.
Every build on this page uses a different type stack and a different ground colour, chosen for that business. That is what “never templated” means in practice — it is checkable, not a claim.

03 The result
- A gym site that reads as a specific training floor rather than a franchise template.
- Programme detail is front-loaded, so a lapsed lifter can qualify themselves in one scroll.
- Heavy display type delivered as a single subsetted variable font, so the weight costs presence rather than page speed.
Forge is a concept build — our own work, not a client project. We invented the business and built the site properly, to the exact standard a paying client would get. We build sites like this for real businesses — see what we do for gyms & studios.
